The Florida Department of Health announced today that three pregnant
women have tested positive for the Zika virus after traveling outside
the United States.
Out of respect for the privacy of these women, their identities, the
counties in which they reside and countries to which they traveled will
not be shared, State Surgeon General and Secretary of Health Dr. John
Armstrong said.
After state officials learned of these three cases, Governor Rick Scott
requested that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention send 250
additional Zika antibody tests to the state, the Florida Department of
Health announced.
According to the CDC, symptoms associated with the Zika virus -- a mosquito-borne pathogen -- last between seven to ten days.
On Feb. 12, Florida activated a Zika virus information hotline for
Florida residents and visitors. The hotline has assisted 683 callers so
far, the Department of Health said.
